This was the week that was.
We have had more activities in a weekend than this weekend but no where close
to the number of people who came to Liberty Lanes and had FUN while trying to
help different causes. This will
be remembered as Fundraiser Weekend.
The 1st fundraiser
was helping Lydia Welch raise money for a missionary trip with her church to
Ghana, West Africa. They had 32 people participate in this FUN tournament.
Ghana is quite important in the history of American. Do you know WHY?
Also, Ghana has become an important country with many natural resources. What
are they? I am quite sure the
people going over to Ghana will be quite different when they return as I was
40 years ago..
The 2nd and
largest fundraiser was Sat. evening after our league.
Cookie’s Crew of Relay for Life raised money to fight against Cancer
in this fundraiser. Instead of
regular bowling, the team decided to do what we call a BATTLE.
It is FUN bowling where
anyone can participate in 4 non regulation games with only 1 ball per frame.
You don’t have to worry about making spares.
We had 72 people bowling and having FUN
and I mean FUN.
We think they did well as we are sure they had FUN.
The winning team was “In Between “. The members of the ”In Between”
were: Jeff & Lisa Oatman,
Pete & Loretta Hawks, and Rusty & Kristen Oatman.
As a side note, we loss 1
pair of bowling shoes at the end tho’ but did gain a 10 ˝
pair of brown shoes which are much better in snow than my bowling
shoes. Let’s make a trade.
The 3rd one on
Sunday was the Varsity Bowling Team Boosters with a Scotch Doubles Tournament.
There are 2 bowlers but only 1 score. The
1st bowler throws and leaves something and the 2nd
bowler has to knock down what ever was left by the 1st bowler.
If the 1st bowler throws a strike the 2nd bowler
becomes the 1st bowler in the next frame.
The 1st place team in this FUN
tournament is well known in
the area Brett and Brandon Clemens beat out Jamie Turner and Don Carpenter by
only 7 pins. It was a FUN
time by all for a good cause.
Congratulations to Ross
Douglas who celebrated his 13th birthday in between all the other
activities. This was his 1st
birthday party at the center. Ross
enjoyed bowling with his friends and family.
The party afterwards was just what was needed after an hour of friendly
competition.
The Seniors bowl on Tuesday
at 12:30 and everyone is welcome to participate. Sandy Conley had
high game and series for the women while DeLose Clark had high game and Don
Gokey had high series for the men. Doing
nothing on Tuesday at noon, well come join the seniors and have some exercise
and FUN at the same time.
The first event of the
weekend was a pre-school bowling party organized by the school.
This group of 30 bowlers was from McConnellsville.
For some of these future 300 bowlers it was their 1st
experience at bowling while others have been at Liberty Lanes many times.
Whether first timers or not, they all had FUN.
Our Scotch
Doubles Gathering will be this Friday at 6:00 and next Friday will be our
No Tap Gathering. At 6:00. Everyone is Welcome.
Our season is 2/3 done.
Our last 11 week Monday Nite Double’s League will start on Feb. 8th.
Find a partner and come to Liberty Lanes at 6:45 on Monday the 8th
to have FUN. This league is made
up of a wide range of bowling experience and ability.
Anyone can fit in and have FUN.
Still no word about our
missing plastic pin but we are hopeful it will find its way home.
